Let's Be Friends (“LBF,” “we,” “us”) is a Chicago friend-matching service. By using our site, completing our survey, or signing up for a cohort, you agree to these Terms. Please read them — they include important limits on our liability and your responsibilities when meeting people in person.
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract to use LBF. Some outings take place at venues that serve alcohol or are 21+; you are responsible for meeting any age or venue requirements. You agree to provide accurate information about yourself and to keep it current.
We verify your identity using your mobile phone number (one signup per number). You're responsible for the security of the device and number used to access your account, and for activity that happens under it.
You complete a personality survey so we can place you in a small group of compatible people. We use artificial intelligence to analyze your responses and suggest compatible groups across attributes like schedule, interests, values, and personality. Our team then reviews and adjusts every match by hand — AI never makes the final decision. By using LBF you consent to this AI-assisted, human-reviewed matching and to AI-generated summaries of your responses for our internal use.
Matching is a human judgment, not a guarantee. We may be unable to place you in a group that fits, in which case you will not be charged. We do not guarantee that you will be matched, that any match will lead to friendship, or any particular outcome from an outing.
If we cannot match you, you are not charged. Once you have been matched and charged, the fee is generally non-refundable because we begin planning and booking on your group's behalf. If you believe there are exceptional circumstances, contact us at hello@lbf.social and we'll review it in good faith. We may cancel a cohort or outing and, where we do, will refund fees paid for the affected cohort.
LBF connects you with other adults but does not employ, supervise, or conduct background checks on members beyond the survey. You are meeting strangers and attending events at your own risk. Use good judgment, meet in the public venues we plan, and tell someone where you'll be.
You agree to treat other members and hosts with respect. The following are prohibited and may result in immediate removal without refund: harassment, threats, hate speech, discrimination, unwanted sexual advances, violence, illegal activity, sharing others' private information, or any conduct that makes others feel unsafe. If you ever feel unsafe, leave and contact us at hello@lbf.social or emergency services.
You assume all risks of attending in-person outings and interacting with other members, including risks of injury, illness, or loss. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release LBF from claims arising out of the conduct of other members or hosts or anything that happens at an outing.
To coordinate, we may invite your group to a group chat on a third-party platform (such as Instagram). Your use of that platform is governed by its own terms and privacy policy. What you share there is visible to your group.
Some outings include an LBF host to help break the ice. Hosts are facilitators, not chaperones or security, and are not responsible for your safety or the conduct of others.
You agree not to misuse the service, including by impersonating others, providing false information, attempting to access other users' data, disrupting the service, or using LBF for any unlawful or commercial solicitation purpose.
By signing up you agree to receive service messages from us by email (and, where enabled, text) about your match, group coordination, outings, and your account. You can opt out of non-essential/marketing messages at any time; essential transactional messages (such as payment and match notifications) are part of the service.
The LBF name, site, content, and brand are owned by LBF. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable license to use the service. You retain ownership of the information you submit, and grant us a license to use it to operate and improve the service as described in our Privacy Policy.
The service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that matches or outings will meet your expectations.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, LBF and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
You agree to indemnify and hold LBF harmless from claims, damages, and expenses arising out of your use of the service, your conduct at outings, or your breach of these Terms.
You may stop using LBF at any time and request deletion of your data. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or to protect other members.
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above, and continued use after changes means you accept them.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois.
